On Sunday evening, Matt and I had our last get-together of this trip. Time for a bit of a holiday celebration: decorating his apartment-sized artificial Christmas tree (toted to Taiwan by me last year at this time), opening gifts. After scouring Taiwan for a candle (not an easy task!), we took a moment to light a tea light as a way to participate in the Light the Candles All Around the World Project, supporting a global education effort of a fourth grade teacher in the U.S.

  1. Does Matt speak or read Chinese?

    • Matt is working on his Mandarin speaking skills, meeting with a tutor on weekends. His weekdays involve English immersion, so there’s not much opportunity for him to work on his fluency there.
