I set out this afternoon on a walking tour of Central Taipei with a few landmarks in mind. I hadn’t counted on periods of heavy rain, many places being closed on Mondays, and the lack of English signage — all gave me some challenges!

I saw the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Historic Events Hall, which has a lovely Japanese garden, and the Taipei Artist Village, where I found a calligraphy exhibit but, most important, a welcome warm spot to dry out and enjoy a late lunch of chicken with vinegar sauce, served with rice and hot tea.  The highlight of my meanderings, however, was coming upon Zhong Xiao Elementary School, with what looked to be child-created mosaics covering the walls surrounding it, each labeled with a recent year.

  1. I just found you in Taiwan! So glad you are back visiting Matt again. Enjoyed the picture of him looking over a book. The mosaics around the elementary school are really nice. The closest one is so bright and cheery.
“Hi” to Matt asnd enjoy the rest of your week there, Claudia.
