Heading to Taiwan, my second annual trek to visit my son Matt, who teaches English there.  I’m awaiting the first leg of this long two-legged trip.

It’s a 20-hour journey, no matter what route one chooses, it seems. This time I’m flying American Airlines from St. Louis to Los Angeles and then EVA from Los Angeles to Taipei.  EVA is new to me. I read that they were first a container shipping company, and they’ve expanded their business to include passenger air travel. They connect East Asia to Europe, Australia, and the U.S., with Taipei as their hub. It was interesting to see the map of their flight routes.

Lesson #1 in global travel:  Contrary to what we learned in our elementary and secondary school experience (at least in the 1960’s), the U.S. is not necessarily the center of the world.

Time to prepare to board.

  1. Have a wonderful time!! How small the world really is today when you can get to China in less than 24 hours. Maureen
